Cilastatin is used in combination with Imipenem. This drug is used for treating a large variety of bacterial infections like pneumonia, endocarditis, sepsis, joint infections, and urinary tract infections, and intra-abdominal infections. It is given by injection into a vein or muscle. It halts the bacterial growth.

What Are The Side Effects Of Cilastatin?

Pain at the injection site, swelling and redness and the usual side effects.

Rarely does it cause diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and stomach upset? Serious side effects are bleeding, mood changes, hearing changes, sore throat, muscle spasms.

 

What Are The Contraindications Of Cilastatin?

Please inform the doctor if you have a medical history of brain, kidney, liver and intestinal disorders. Pregnant women and lactating mothers have to exercise caution while using the drug.
