Hepatitis B vaccine is given to newborn babies and a complete course of 3-4 shots is completed by 6 months of age to prevent hepatitis infections. This vaccine contains viral envelope proteins i.e., hepatitis ‘B’ surface antigens (HBsAg) when enters bloodstream stimulates the production of antibodies anti-HBs to fight against viral infection.

The number of doses may be increased if screened positive of HIV infection and in case of poor immunity.
