Meningococcal vaccine prevents Neisseria meningitides infection causing bacterial meningitis (a life-threatening inflammation covering of the brain and spinal cord causing hearing loss, limb loss due to amputation, nervous system problems, seizures, strokes, and mental retardation).
Meningococcal vaccine (MPSV4) is made with the antigens which are present on the outer polysaccharide (or) sugar capsule that is present in the bacterium. The first dose is given at 11 – 12 years and second (or) booster dose is given at 16 years of age.

Meningococcal vaccine is usually safe, but in some cases may cause side effects such as:
