What Are The Uses Of Pemetrexed?

Pemetrexed is used to treat non-small cell lung cancer and Mesothelioma (another type of cancer which can happen in lungs or chest), when other medications fail to work.

Patients who are taking pemetrexed are advised to take folic acid and vitamin B12 supplements. 

What Are The Side Effects Of Pemetrexed?

Some of the common side effects include:

  • Low blood cell counts
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Mental fatigue and sleepiness
  • Diarrhoea or constipation (varies from patient to patient)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Oral ulcers
  • Skin rash

What Are The Contraindications Of Pemetrexed?

Please inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Severe kidney disease
  • Blood cell disorders like leukopenia, anaemia or thrombocytopenia
  • Decreased bone marrow function
  • Kidney or liver problems
