What Are The Uses Of Tetanus Toxoid?

Tetanus vaccine is injected to develop active immunity (long term immunity) to protect humans from bacteria called Clostridium Tetani. Vaccine stimulates immune system of body to produce antibodies against particular micro-organisms.

If the Tetanus vaccine is not given in childhood, then it can be given at the time of injury also.

Common side effects of Tetanus Toxoid vaccine include:

  • Joint/ muscle pain
  • Mild fever
  • Nausea & vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Body ache
  • Light-headedness
  • Allergic reactions at injection site (pain itching swelling tenderness redness or a lump).

Tetanus Toxoid may interact with steroids and chemotherapeutic drugs (drugs used in cancer).
