What Are The Uses Of Thyroxine Sodium?
Levothyroxine/ Thyroxine/ L-Thyroxine Sodium is used for treating hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid) and myxoedema coma (a severe form of hypothyroidism in which the mental status changes and hypothermia can also occur).
It works by providing or replacing thyroid hormone, which is otherwise produced by the thyroid gland. Thyroid hormone levels go down when the thyroid gland is injured by medications/ radiation or removed by surgery.
What Are The Side Effects Of Thyroxine Sodium?
Side effects are usually caused due to high or inappropriate dose. Some such side effects could be:
- Low bone mineral density (osteoporosis)
- Cardiac troubles like palpitations
- Abdominal pain, increased appetite.
- Nausea, anxiousness
- Agitation, confusion, insomnia
- Weight loss
