What Are The Uses Of Topotecan?
Topotecanis mainly used in chemotherapy of various types of cancers. Itis used for the treatment of ovarian cancer, lung cancer and other cancer, which do not respond well to other anticancer drugs. It can also be used to treat certain types of cervical cancers which cannot be treated by surgery or radiation therapy.
It is commonly administered as oral dose.
What Are The Side Effects Of Topotecan?
Following side effects are observed normally:
Alopecia (loss of body hair), abdominal pain, constipation, vomiting, diarrhoea, difficulty in breathing, fatigue, fever, chills, cough,sore throat, headache, leukopenia (reduction in WBC in blood), nausea, stomatitis (inflammation of mouth)&bleeding gums, thrombocytopenia (deficiency of platelets in the blood), anorexia (loss of appetite for food), black stool, painful urination, pale skin, red spots on skin and unusual bleeding.
What Are The Contraindications Of Topotecan?
Topotecan is highly contraindicated in pregnancy, bone marrow suppression, lung fibrosis, kidney impairment, gastric or any other type of ulcers, low count of WBC in blood and cervical cancer.
