What Are The Uses Of Triclofos?
It is categorisedas sedative, but rarely used as sedative in developed countries. It is used when other sedatives fail to producedesiredresults in those countries. However in developing world it is popular as sedatives for children between ages of 6 months and 5 years to perform electroencephalogram evaluation (EEG) and other non-surgical evaluation. Upon administration it induces 30 to 90 minutes sleep in children.
Beside above use, it is also used as recurrent colic with persistent crying, excitability and restlessness and convulsions in children.
What Are The Side Effects Of Triclofos?
It may cause dependence. Apart from dependence below side effect may occur.
- Headache, rash, dizziness
- Flatulence, diarrhoea
- Abdominal pain
- Ataxia (partial loss of bodily movement)
What Are The Contraindications Of Triclofos?
It should not be used with CNS depressant like alcohol, barbiturates or other sedatives. It is contraindicated in pregnancy and post pregnancy, reduced renal or hepatic functions and cardiac diseases.
It is not advised to use as long term therapy. However on using it long term; patient should be monitored for first 2 to 3 weeks.
