What Are The Uses Of Trimetazidine?
It is a drug of choice for long term treatment for angina pectoris (chest pain, heaviness in chest, squeezing due to reduced oxygen flow to cardiac muscle of heart). The most common reason for reduced oxygen flow to heart is artery blockage.
Conventionally used as second line treatment after the patient gets tolerant to nitrates (first line of treatment for angina pectoris)
In addition to above use it is now more popular as treatment of stable coronary artery disease.
What Are The Side Effects Of Trimetazidine?
It is considered as very safe and well tolerated drug. However, it exhibits some reactions with monoamine oxidase enzyme family drug (used in treatment of depression and Parkinson’s disease).
What Are The Contraindications Of Trimetazidine?
It should be used cautiously in Parkinson’s disease, depression, gait instability, restless legs syndrome (compulsion to move legs constantly).
